You noticed that your patio door screen does not slide as smooth as it use to do on its rail or it even left a trace on the door casing because you choose to ignore it for a while. Fixing the issue is quite straightforward and will prevent any further damage to the door casing, an unnecessary expensive visit of a contractor or an earlier that expected replacement of the door screen.

Here is what you should do to fix your squeaky patio door screen in less than 10 minutes, step by step:

1. Take the door screen out of the patio door casing by grabbing the screen frame from its sides, firmly pushing it upwards and, once the lower edge gets above the lower rail, pulling the door screen towards you

2. Inspect the upper rolling wheels and their holding mechanism, make sure their are still popping upwards after you firmly depress them

3. Apply white grease onto the moving parts of the mechanism

4. Inspect the lower rolling wheels, typically the holding elastic mechanism has lost its original strength and/or shape over the year and allows the rolls to retreat too much into the door panel lower frame. If so, the role does not support anymore the patio door screen and the door screen will simple slide on its bottom and scratch the door frame

5. Pull out the lower wheal using your index finger or a prying tool

6. Reshape the spring of the holding mechanism such that the lower wheal will assume a normal position outside the frame of the door screen

7. Apply white grease onto the moving parts of the mechanism

8. Insert the holding mechanism back into its place, push firmly as the spring will tend to oppose more now since you reshaped it

9. Make sure the valley of the rolling wheel sticks out properly from the frame of the door screen, otherwise get the mechanism out and adjust it more

10. Remount the door screen into the patio door casing by placing its top rolling wheels onto the top rail, pushing firmly upwards, sliding the lower wheels on top on the lower rail, and releasing the door screen into its place

11. Move the door screen back and forth to make sure it works properly, if it doesn’t make sure the lower and upper rolling wheals are properly seated on their rails
