Build a wheel table for driving video games (PS3, Xbox…)
The wheels come with a knee support but this is really awkward so I started to look for an affordable alternate solution. I could have bought a small table but I wasn’t able to find a cheap one to satisfy the size requirements. I also looked into pre-made gaming cockpits but most of them are pretty expensive.
I ended up at Ikea looking for a cheap solution and I found wood shelves for just $10 a piece. They looked good enough for what I wanted: the proper size and price. I bought two of them and with some other wood pieces I had around the house I built a table for two driving wheels.

I used one of the shelves as the table top and the other one, cut in two, as the legs. To make the whole thing sturdier I used two pieces from a 2×4 stud and two from a 2×2 stud.

Because the shelves are made from soft wood I pre-drilled all the holes before assembling everything with screws.

The only thing that I still have to do is to fill the screw holes with wood putty and to paint the table (this might never happen).

So for a total cost of under $30 you can build this table and invest more money in the driving wheels!

Of course the table can be used for other purposes too. And the console doesn’t matter - Xbox, PS2, Wii or other will be happy with it as well
Now that I look at it I think with just a bit more effort I can make a nice solution for routing the cables. Another idea is to use another shelf for the bottom so the pedals will be placed on it. This way I could use a stopper to prevent the pedals support from moving around. I guess I might invest another $10 in this table after all. Happy gaming!
